Dormer Light in Attic Space, Pleasant Hill
Dormers cut into the roof of the three-story Centre Family Dwelling (1824-34) provided light for storage areas. Keeping what belongings they had in these common spaces promoted cooperation and selflessness and forced Shakers to limit the possessions they accumulated.
